Optimum Nutrition for Optimum Health

Optimum health is a lot more than the absence of disease or ill-health.  It is a state of profound wellbeing, physically, mentally and emotionally.  Our health depends on a number of factors both genetic and environmental including many lifestyle factors such as diet, sleep, stress management and exercise.  Most of the common chronic health conditions have been linked, at least in part, to poor diet. Making sure that we get all the essential nutrients we need, including proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals and avoiding foods and ingredients that can cause harm is an important step in moving towards better health.

Maximising your health potential through an optimised diet and other lifestyle factors can provide our bodies with the environment to help re-balance systems that have become imbalanced.

The concept of optimum nutrition and the importance of nutrition for good health is not new.  As early as AD390 Hippocrates said

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food.”

What is nutritional therapy

Nutritional therapy is a science based modality that aims to identify functional imbalances which can lead to ill health and support the body towards optimal function through specific dietary and nutritional interventions.  This may include optimising digestive function, identifying food allergens and environmental toxins and supporting a healthy stress response.

The nutritional therapist recognises that each person has their individual requirements for nutrients based on their genetic make-up, their environment and their lifestyles.  The aim of nutritional therapy is to establish those requirements to help the person achieve and maintain optimum health.
